A "next-generation" dermal filler, JUVÉDERM™ uses hyaluronic acid, which is a naturally occurring chemical in human skin that hydrates and adds volume, thus smoothing out wrinkles. Because it’s a natural substance found in the skin, no allergy tests are needed before treatment can be administered. Other advantages to JUVÉDERM™ are that it’s the only dermal filler of its kind formulated to be smooth instead of granular. This means its smooth consistency causes the treatment to be longer-lasting than other fillers. Additionally, JUVÉDERM™ is the first treatment of its kind proven to be safe and effective for people of color.
Two formulas are available to meet an individual’s needs. JUVÉDERM™ Ultra provides counter and volume to wrinkles and folds while JUVÉDER™ Ultra Plus works to correct deeper wrinkles and folds on the face.
Is This Procedure for You?
JUVÉDERM™ is suitable for people of all ages, except those whoare pregnant or breastfeeding, or have an infection in the area to be treated. An allergy test is not needed for the procedure. Those who have neuromuscular disorders should proceed with caution, as they may experience serious side effects from the treatment. Discuss with Dr. Houston, Laurie or Sissy if you have such a disorder or any other concerns.
Meet with Laurie or Sissy
In your initial consultation, Laurie or Sissy will evaluate your health, discuss your medical history and assess the contours of your face. They will then review your goals and make recommendations based on their evaluation. The techniques used in JUVÉDERM™ injectionwill be described in detail, and informational materials will be provided. Be sure to notify them of any medicine you are taking and if you haveany allergies, active skin issues or illnesses that affect your nerves and muscles.
What to Expect
In most cases, the procedure will be performed on an outpatient basis and will typically take about 15 minutes.
During the Procedure
Generally, no anesthesia is required in JUVÉDERM™ injections, although sometimes topical anesthetic cream will be used to numb the area. The gel will be injected under the skin to fill or augment wrinkles and folds.
Post-Procedure
After the procedure, avoid excessive activity like strenuous exercise or prolonged exposure to the sun. Doing so will decrease your chances of experiencing some side effects, such as itching or infection. Other possible side effects include pain, swelling, bumps, firmness, and redness.
Discuss with Laurie or Sissy when touch-up treatments might be needed to achieve and keep the desired results.
